I am reaching out to share the heart-touching story of APALAT NOELA, a baby girl born in 2021, whose journey has been marked by medical challenges since birth. She is being raised by a single mother having been abandoned by her dad.
This has all became the sole burden to the uncle who was not doing well financially as well since he was the main bread winner for this family of 8 and now NOELA, the 9th member of the family. The uncle has been struggling to see that his siblings, mother and Neola live every day that goes by. When she turned a year and 7 months, she was taken to the doctor for review who recommended that she had to undergo another surgery for her swelling on her back and another swelling on back of the head which had developed. The cost for this procedure is Ugx 3million which is what is to be raised.
NOELA was born with a swelling below the tongue that formed a shape of a ball with also another swelling at the back of the of the head. We didn’t know the cause till she was around 6-8months old and visited a medical doctor who told us that the condition was caused by an opening left behind by the thyroid gland which failed to close up while it moved down to the neck region of which he said a surgery was the only solution.

Help Noella get the medical help she needs
She was supposed to undergo 2 surgeries one below the tongue another back of the head but due to the fact that NOELA had been abandoned by her father, this meant that her only hope to was the uncle Joshua whose financial muscle was not that strong. Joshua had to sell the family cow to be able to send her for the first surgery which costed ugx 700,000 which went on successfully! Noela was required to return for the second surgery after a 3 months period given as to recover from the first surgery.
After 3 months, having gathered again some more resources for her second surgery which went on successfully also after the two surgeries she refused to feed on the mother’s breast for milk. The doctors recommended for her tinned milk which costed ugx 60.000shs per tin which she would need 3-4 tins a month and this made her welfare very expensive including other necessities.
